My first exposure to Matisse was in 2006 at the Musee d'Art Moderne De La Ville De Paris. His work did not make that much of an impact on me then. But this autumn I stumbled across a book of his paper cuttings at an antique store in Missouri. Perhaps the timing has to be right to be impacted by art. I am kind of obsessed with his work right now. Great use of color and pattern and shape. Not hampered by ultra-realism. Expressive. Give Matisse a chance.
