A Brief Obsession with Jane Birkin

Tuesday, October 4, 2011

British Vogue has just featured a great interview with Jane Birkin- a woman whose style was and remains effortless and iconic. The article was a great reminder of what it takes to pursue personal style and originality. Birkin famously wore whatever she wanted to- from a farm basket she carried with her to fancy parties and nightclubs- to her hair that she never seemed to bother with. She is the originator of effortless glamour. Jane Birkin is also a fantastic example of what it takes for an English native to get on in French culture. She was herself- she was confident- she broke the rules- and she sang in French. Voila! Her marriage to French vocal hero Serge Gainsbourg helped propel her from actress to national celebrity. Somehow she is currently fascinating me. Perhaps there will be more posts on her in the future.
